LIFE AFTER HARBOUR

As a table requires four legs to stand sturdy and strong, so too our students require instruction in four key areas to successfully transition to adult life. Students are challenged to develop skills in the areas of academic competence, social competence, emotional competence, and vocational competence. In doing so our students graduate with a solid foundation, prepared to enter the adult arenas of continuing education, career and family -- ready to succeed!

Beginning in 1997, and every year since, we have conducted graduate outcome surveys to measure the effectiveness of our programs in meeting our mission. Every year we have found that more than 90% of our graduates are successfully employed, enrolled in post secondary education, or both. In a country where the unemployment rate of individuals with disabilities exceeds 75%, we are proud to know that we are effectively preparing students to contribute to the health of their communities by leading successful lives.

Harbour Horizons
Harbour Way Innovative Learning has created a unique 2 year, non-credit certificate program. This 2 year, 5 day a week program is designed for students with mild to moderate learning differences who want to live and work independently. Utilizing The Harbour School's competency based curriculum philosophy, each course is designed to provide students with the academic, social and vocational skills needed to live and work in the community. Courses include financial literacy, English for independent living, health and wellness, technology and other contemporary courses to assist students with moving toward the next level of independence. Students take academic classes in the morning and then participate in individual job internships in the afternoon. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a non-credit certificate.
